Browns Fans Upset With The Haslam: I GET IT

I have lived in Cleveland all my Life and witnessed the struggles of professional sports here. It has been heartbreaking to say the least. Cleveland fans are hungry for a Super Bowl. In my opinion, it all started back in January 1963 when then-owner Art Modell fired former coach Paul Brown. He was the founder of the team and they named the team after him. Paul Brown moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and founded the Bengals NFL Football team. I won't bore you with the rest of the details you can google the rest of that story.

In 1964 Browns won the NFL Championship by beating the Baltimore Colts and that was the last Championship game that Cleveland won. they went to another championship game in 1965 and lost to the Green Bay Packers.

The first Super Bowl was in 1967. While the Browns have won several playoff games they have never played in a Super Bowl. 

Other Cleveland Professional Sports teams have also suffered. The Cleveland Indians became Guardians in 2022, and that team won two World Series Championship games in 1920 and 1948. In 1954 the team was swept in the World Series and they did not appear in the postseason again until 1995 when they lost to the Atlanta Braves in the World Series. Again you can google the rest of the team history.

In 1970  Cleveland welcomed the NBA Cavaliers as the newest Professional sports team to the area. Talk about a rough start. They had to forfeit a bunch of games because the ice rink below the ball court melted and made the games unplayable. So the team moved to the Richfield Coliseum and started inning games and made several playoff appearances. But it was not until 2016 that they won the championship.

Again Google the rest let's get back to the Browns.

While the other items have been forgiven by fans the Browns have found a way over and over again to torment the fans.

With all that being said lets just take a look at the recent past that has just punched fans in the gut. 

This is a short list, so I can get to the end of this post.

Marty Schottenheimer resigns or gets fired, not really clear what happened. But if Marty had stayed in my opinion the Browns would have gone to the Super Bowl.

Bud Carson Coach 1989-1990

Had a great 1st year only to go 3-13 the next.


Bill Belichick 1991-1995

Let's not forget that Belichick Cut Bernie Kosar for Diminished skills.

He was the last couch before Modell moved the team to Baltimore.

The Move to Baltimore was the end of the world for Cleveland Browns fans.

1995 the Browns return with a long list of coaches and quarterbacks

and disgruntled fans anger has reached fever pitch.

It just never ends. But Heartache started before Haslam

But cutting Baker Mayfield for Deshaun Watson has to be the icing on the cake. it has been a disastrous past 4 years. But hiring a MLB strategist for your chief football operations strategist is just stupid. Just why do that? I don't get it. But that is where we are at with the Cleveland Browns. You can add so much to this list. it can go on and on but this blog post is long enough as it is.

Reflections on Retirement: Five Months In

On January 1st, I retired from work. Now, halfway through my fifth month, I find myself wondering if I made the right decision. My original plan was to pick up a part-time job—something low-paying so it wouldn’t impact my Social Security benefits. But life had other plans. Shortly after retiring, my mother fell ill. It took me three long, stressful months to get her placed in a nursing home. I didn’t have Power of Attorney, so I had to involve Adult Protective Services (APS). The process was messy and emotionally draining. My anxiety was through the roof. (I’ll share more about that in another blog post.) These days, I spend more time reading the Bible and getting involved in church activities, which helps keep me grounded.
